Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz met Tuesday with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov in Nouakchott to discuss “the activation of bilateral relations”, according to Mauritania’s official news agency.

“We discussed Moscow’s plan to return to Africa and activate its relations with Nouakchott in particular,” Bogdanov reportedly said at a joint press conference held after the meeting.

The talks, Bogdanov was quoted as saying, had also tackled "political and economic developments in the two countries".

Bogdanov was further quoted as saying that a “document” outlining the results of his talks with Ould Abdel Aziz would be signed in Nouakchott during his visit, the exact duration of which remains unclear.

The Russian diplomat declined to elaborate further regarding the document’s contents.

According to the same news agency, Tuesday’s meeting was also attended by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih and Russian Ambassador to Nouakchott Vladimir Shamov.
