Two tourists from Switzerland were killed in Kenya’s coastal town of Mombasa, a famous beach resort.

Confirming the deaths to Anadolu Agency on Sunday, Kisauni police chief Christopher Rotich said: “The injuries in the head of the Switzerland citizens were probably caused by blunt objects. We are not sure why they were killed.”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, he added.

A local newspaper The Star reported that the couple arrived in Kenya on Saturday.

“The bodies of Werner Borner Paul, 70, and Marriane Hornel were found at Kiembeni area by pedestrians on Sunday morning,” it said. No age was given for Hornel.

In July 2014, German and Russian tourists were robbed of their valuables in Mombasa and later shot dead in separate incidents.
