ANKARA

CIA Director Mike Pompeo arrived in the capital Ankara on Thursday for his first overseas visit since taking office last month.

Pompeo was greeted at Esenboga Airport by U.S. Embassy officials. His arrival came two days after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke on the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The CIA head met Erdogan at the presidential complex, according to presidential sources. Hakan Fidan, the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT), was also present at the meeting.

Earlier, Pompeo had visited the MIT office.
