Turkish Deputy PM  Bulent Arinc said on Sunday that Turkey made its presence felt very strongly but it was not fated to host the 2020 Olympics.

Tokyo was chosen over Istanbul and Madrid by the International Olympic Committee to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games during the final round of voting in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Saturday.

"Prime Minister Erdogan and the Istanbul delegation made a very good presentation in Buenos Aires. I believe Turkey's efforts were appreciated a lot and applauded. Turkey was not voted out in the first round; it was Madrid," said Arinc.

He said Turkey has made these preparations for years and added " There is not much left to do. Turkey was not chosen to host the 2020 Olympics and we should look into the reasons of not having been chosen. Tokyo's facilities were not better than Istanbul's."

He expressed hope that Turkey will host better events in the future.
