At least 10 people were killed and three others were wounded on Wednesday morning after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives on the outskirts of Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, security officials said.

The bomber reportedly targeted a vehicle carrying court employees traveling to Wardak province, located 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of Kabul.

“The victims included civilians and appellate court staff,” Deputy Interior Minister Najibullah Danish said.

In a statement, the Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, calling it “revenge for the execution of six Taliban fighters by the Afghan government”.

The Taliban had warned of assaults on Afghanistan’s judicial system after six of its comrades were recently executed.

This is the first suicide attack by the Taliban after its leader Mullah Mansoor was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan last week.
