Anadolu Agency covered Turkey's nationwide constitutional referendum in a special broadcast program -- Referendum 2017 -- on Sunday.

The agency instantly broadcast unofficial referendum results to its subscribers -- 27 media organizations and 70 local TV channels -- as the results came in from around Turkey and polls abroad.

After the Supreme Board of Elections (YSK) lifted the broadcast ban on election results at 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT), the results were transmitted in the agency's 11 broadcast languages on an election website at secim.aa.com.tr.

The agency currently publishes news stories in Turkish, English, Arabic, French, Kurdish, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian (BSC), Russian, Albanian, Persian, and Macedonian.

The agency's website hit 1 million visitors in the two-and-a-half hours the results were posted online.

Anadolu Agency Chairman and Director General Senol Kazanci said the referendum was the fifth election the agency has successfully covered in the past three years.

The agency employed extra reporters, editors, and technical staff to cover the polls, he said, adding that it also fended off "intense" cyber-attacks.

More than 48 million Turkish people went to the polls as Yes votes led with 51.34 percent, according to the unofficial results the agency collected.

Turkey headed to the polls on Sunday in a referendum on an 18-article bill that would see the country switch from a parliamentary to a presidential system, among other changes.
