BIST 100 index climbs 0.41 percent, while US dollar/Turkish lira rate stands around 3.52

ANKARA

Turkey's benchmark stock index started the day with a 410.60-point or 0.41 percent rise to open at 99,800.73 points on Thursday.

The banking and holding sector indexes increased 0.39 percent and 0.52 percent, respectively.

Among all sectors, the textile leather index was the best performer with a 0.79-percent rise, while the tourism sector index started the day with the biggest decline, falling by 0.20 percent.

At close on Wednesday, the BIST 100 went up by 0.12 percent to stand at 99.390,12 points, with a total trading volume of 3.5 billion Turkish liras (approximately $992 million).

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate declined to 3.5260 at 9.30 a.m. local time (0630GMT) Thursday, compared to 3.5310 at Wednesday’s close.

Turkey's consumer confidence index slipped 3.8 percent month-on-month to 70 in June, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a report on Thursday.
