After closing with gains for four consecutive trading days, major indexes in the U.S. stock market opened higher on Thursday.
The Dow Jones rose 221 points, or 0.9 percent, to start trading at 25,114 points, while the S&P 500 added 18 points, or 0.7 percent, to open at 2,717 points.
The Nasdaq increased 54 points, or 0.8 percent, to begin the day at 7,197 points.
The indexes had their worst weekly loss in the past two years last week, but volatility has declined and the market is finding balance, analysts said.
The CBOE Volatility Index with a ticker symbol VIX, which measures the market's volatility expectation in the S&P 500, was below its historic average of 20 on Wednesday. At Thursday's opening, the index was at 17.61 with an 8.6 percent loss.
