Turkey and Denmark began a partnership to undertake a project for low-carbon heating and cooling solutions in buildings and in industry that will run until December 2019, a consultant at Danish Energy Agency, Bjarne Juul-Kristensen, said on Friday.
At the panel entitled Energy efficiency as part of National Energy Strategy organized on the sidelines of 10th Annual International Energy Congress and Expo (EIF 2017), and of which Anadolu Agency is the global communication partner, Juul-Kristensen introduced the strategic sector cooperation project between Turkey and Denmark on efficient and low-carbon heating and cooling.
'The objective is to help Turkey to develop relevant policies, strategies and solutions to enable a low-carbon transition of its energy sector,' he said.
The partnership is also to benefit Turkey's long-term objectives for energy efficiency, district energy and to aid the implementation of planned new legislation on heating supplies.
In 2016, bilateral meetings took place between Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Danish Energy Agency, which led to the signing of the project proposal on March 29 this year, Juul-Kristensen added.
The sides will engage in energy mapping and forecasting of heating and cooling demand and supply in Turkey with the aim of covering the entire country until mid-2018, he said.
During the preparatory period, two model cities - one large and one small - will be selected. In addition, a full range of scenarios will be identified for future heat supply and cost-benefit analyses will be conducted, of which first results will be shared in March 2018.
The project plans to be completed by December 2019, after pre-feasibility studies of concrete heating and cooling supply projects have been undertaken.
