Unit three of China's Tianwan nuclear power plant's (NPP) in the Jiangsu province started electricity production last Saturday, Dec. 30, Russian nuclear company Rosatom announced on Saturday.
'Construction of the third and fourth power units of the Tianwan NPP are being implemented in record-breaking time,' Kirill Komarov, Rosatom's first deputy director general for corporate development and international business, was quoted as saying.
The next step will involve resting the reactor, which is based on a Russian VVER-1000 design, at a power level of 200 megawatts. Dynamic tests will follow at 50 percent, 75 percent and 100 percent capacities.
Upon the successful completion of initial testing at 100 percent thermal capacity, demonstration testing will proceed at nominal capacity for 100 hours, Rosatom confirmed.
'The third power unit's start-up is being carried out five years after the start of construction,' said ASE Group (Rosatom's engineering division) President Valery Limarenko, adding that the construction of the third and fourth power units is ahead of schedule.
The start-up of the power units one and two of the Tianwan NPP took place in 2007.
The NPP generated more than 15 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity after the start-up of power units one and two.
Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC) jointly with the Russian company Atomstroyexport, known as the ASE Group, are undertaking the construction of the Tianwan NPP.
