Finnish power company, Fortum's Loviisa nuclear power plant reached a historical high power production in 2017 generating more than 10 percent of Finland's total electricity, the company announced on Wednesday.
Loviisa generated 8.16 billion kilowatt-hours of power.
'On an international scale, the 92.7 percent load factor of the Loviisa nuclear power plant was among the best in the world for pressurized water reactor power plants,' the company said.
Unit one of Loviisa load factor reached 92.7 percent while unit two totaled 92.6 percent. The production output of unit one marked a record high and unit 2 followed as the second highest in the history of the plant, the company announced.
According to the company, for refueling purposes, unit one was out of production for 21 days and unit 2 for 17 days.
In 2017, Fortum's investments in the Loviisa power plant amounted to approximately €90 million compared to €100 million in 2016. Investments will continue to be significant in the coming years also, the company said.
The Loviisa nuclear power plant employs approximately 500 Fortum employees and also offers employment to 100 permanent contractors. Additionally, a total of 940 external employees participated in projects for the plant in 2017.
