Turkey’s EU affairs minister on Thursday said European countries should fight against the mentality of “racists,” especially on migration from Africa.
Celik suggested EU counties only regarded the African continent as a kind of detention camp, and said they were focused only on preventing immigration.
His comments come after a fifth African Union-European Union summit in the Ivorian capital Abidjan where economic ties and migration were being discussed.
Investment in Africa was necessary for the future of young people in the continent, Celik added.
“Not giving the possibility of regular migration to people who escape from poverty and tyranny leads to the establishment of slave markets as seen in Libya,” Celik said.
