European Youth Olympic games - Day 2

At least 675 athletes from 34 countries competing in eastern Anatolian city of Erzurum

ERZURUM, Turkey 

The second day events of the European Youth Olympic Festival ended in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum on Tuesday with at least 675 athletes from 34 countries competing to take home gold.

This is the first time Turkey has hosted the games, also known as EYOF 2017.

The games’ opening ceremonies were held on Sunday night at Erzurum’s 25,000-person capacity Kazim Karabekir Stadium. Despite the chilly -14 Celsius (6.8 Fahrenheit) weather, many people showed up to see the event.

Men’s Cross-Country Skiing 10 kilometers (6.2 miles)

1. Andrei Nekrasov (Russia), won gold with a time of 21.37.3.

2. Petteri Koivosto (Finland), 22.10.7.

3. Andrei Kuznetsov (Russia), 22.13.9.

Yusuf Emre Firat (Turkey), with a time of 23.52.9 came 23rd from among 53 competitors.

Women’s Cross-Country Skiing 7.5 km

1. Kristina Kuskova (Russia), with a time of 19.13.3, won gold.

2. Elena Kucheva (Russia), 19.23.5.

3. Josefiina Book (Finland), 19.34.6.

Aysenur Duman (Turkey), with a time of 20.42.7 came ninth from among 42 competitors.

Men’s Biathlon 7.5 km Sprint

1. Vitazslav Hornig (Czech Republic), won gold with a time of 19.46.9.

2. Kristo Siimer (Estonia), 20.02.4.

3. Mikhail Pervushin (Russia), 20.02.7.

Okan Alalma (Turkey), with a time of 22.46.0 came 31st from among 52 competitors.

Women's Biathlon 6 km Sprint

1. Camille Bened (France), won gold with a time of 17.42.2.

2. Khrystna Dmytrenko (Ukraine), 18.03.7.

3. Anastasia Shevchenko (Russia), 18.04.1.

Gulsah Aga (Turkey), with a time of 19.44.2 came in 18th from among 46 competitors.

Men's Ski Jump

1. Timi Zajc (Slovenia), won gold with 261.3 points.

2. Jonathan Learoyd (France), 246.4 points.

3. Mathis Contamine (France), 240.7 points.

Muhammed Ali Bedir (Turkey), with 213.5 points, came fourth.

Women’s Ski Jump

1. Romane Dieu (France), won gold with 223.7 points.

2. Nika Kriznar (Slovenia), 211.8 points.

3. Katra Komar (Slovenia), 204.1 points.

Men’s Alpine Skiing

1. Alex Vinatzer (Italy) won gold with a time of 2.10.06.

2. Turo Torvinen (Finland), 2.10.49.

3. Giovanni Zazzaro (Italy), 2.11.25.

Berkin Usta (Turkey), with a time of 2.17.56 came in 21st from among 61 competitors.
