EU foreign policy head Federica Mogherini on Monday expressed her sympathy to the relatives of those killed in 1995's Srebrenica genocide, the 22nd anniversary of which will be marked on Tuesday in Bosnia.

Speaking at a meeting of the EU’s Stabilisation and Association Council, Mogherini said the EU was determined to support Bosnia in its process of reconciliation and in its future within the European Union.

Monday’s meeting saw a Bosnian delegation led by chairman of the country’s Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic and Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak.

Bosnia first applied for EU membership in February last year.

Mogherini told reporters after the meeting much had been done over the past two years but added: "We have analyzed how Bosnia has moved away from the accession process and agreed that a joint strategy on energy and agriculture should be completed.”

A meeting in Trieste, Italy between number of Western Balkan leaders and the EU is expected on Wednesday.
