Two Saudi security men were gunned down in the eastern city of Dammam on Tuesday, the Saudi-owned Arabiya TV reported.

The broadcaster said three gunmen opened fire on the security men, killing them instantly.

There was no comment from Saudi authorities on the attack, for which no group has yet claimed responsibility.

Saudi Arabia has seen a spate of militant attacks in recent months, which authorities blame on the Daesh terrorist group.

The kingdom’s eastern province is home to a Shia minority and has witnessed unrest since the death of a prominent Shia cleric, whose execution by the Saudi authorities earlier this year indirectly led to a rupture in Riyadh’s relations with Tehran.
