WASHINGTON

The Taliban blasted a NATO vehicle injuring five people, the Pentagon confirmed to Anadolu Agency on Sunday.

"Four Romanian troops and an Afghan linguist, supporting the Resolute Support mission, suffered injuries when their vehicle hit an‎ improvised explosive device [IED] near Kandahar district, Kandahar province in the early morning of Sept. 25,” according to a Pentagon email.

The email was in response to an Anadolu Agency inquiry about a tweet by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

"6 US invaders killed, evaced by 3 choppers after IED shred APC [armored personnel carrier] to pieces 1pm today near #Kandahar airbase in Kalamtar area of Dand district," Mujahid claimed earlier in the day, using U.S. military stage for evacuated.

According to the Pentagon, the group was conducting “a normal security patrol” in the vicinity of Kandahar Airfield when their vehicle hit the IED.

“The individuals were all evacuated from the scene of the‎ incident and are at Kandahar Airfield where they are currently being treated,” the Pentagon said.
