A senior commander of the Rwandan rebels organization operating in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has been arrested by the Congolese army, FARDC, a military commander told Anadolu Agency Tuesday.

The arrested rebel commander was identified as Col. Habiarimana Mucebo, who was said to be in charge of intelligence in the Rwandan rebel group called the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), which is based in North Kivu and South Kivu in eastern DRC.

According to Capt. Peter Mbungua, one of the Congolese army commanders in eastern DRC, Habiarimana was arrested Sunday and was taken to Goma city for questioning Monday.

“Our soldiers arrested Habiarimana in Rutshuru territory in north Kivu. He is wanted for leading Rwandan rebels in an attack on villagers and killing innocent people,” Mbungua said, adding the suspect would be taken to court to face charges.
