Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz arrived in Kuwait on Thursday for the final leg of a weeklong four-nation tour of the Gulf.

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah received King Salman -- who flew in from Bahrain -- at Kuwait City’s royal airport.

King Salman is expected to head to the emir’s Bayan Palace in Kuwait’s eastern Hawalli governorate, where he will meet with ranking members of the Kuwaiti government and royal family.

In a statement, Kuwait’s Interior Minister said that a number of the country’s main roads would be closed for the duration of the Saudi monarch’s three-day stay.

King Salman’s visit to Kuwait comes immediately after the 37th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, which the king attended earlier this week in Bahraini capital Manama.

Along with Kuwait, King Salman’s Gulf tour -- which kicked off on Dec. 3 -- brought him to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain.

The king’s tour is the first of its kind since Salman assumed the throne early last year.
