US: Hillary Clinton releases income tax returns

New York

NEW YORK

Hillary Clinton released her income tax return for 2015, federal documents showed Friday.

The Democratic presidential nominee and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, paid $3.24 million in taxes out of their adjusted gross income of $10.6 million.

Meanwhile, Clinton's running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, and his wife Anne Holton had a little more than $313,000 in gross income and paid a total of 25.6 percent in taxes.

Kaine also released his returns dating to 2006, while the Clintons released all of their annual tax returns going back to 1977.

Between 2007 and 2014, the Clintons paid approximately $57 million in federal, state and local taxes, from a total income of more than $140 million.

Meanwhile, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has still not released his tax return.

Trump had told The Associated Press in May that he would not release his returns before the Nov. 8 elections. "There's nothing to learn from them,” he said.

He later said via Twitter that his taxes were under a routine audit and he would release them once the review was completed.

Although there is no legal obligation for candidates running for the White House to release their tax returns, since 1973 every major party presidential candidate has done so.
