Stray bullets hit Israeli soldier on border with Egypt

JERUSALEM
An Israeli soldier patrolling the border with Egypt was injured by stray bullets from the other side, the Israeli military said Monday.
Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a statement that the soldier had been transferred to hospital and the shooting appeared to have been a result of internal fighting within Egypt's Sinai peninsula.
In October, the militant group Daesh's Sinai branch claimed responsibility for rockets fired at Israel.
The Sinai Peninsula has remained the epicenter of a militant insurgency since 2013, which killed hundreds of Egyptian troops across the volatile peninsula.
