IDLIB, Syria

Opposition fighters in Syria’s Idlib province on Tuesday captured 400 Daesh terrorists -- and neutralized a number of others -- as the latter attempted to infiltrate a de-escalation zone.

According to an Anadolu Agency correspondent in the area, several armed Idlib-based opposition groups have launched a joint operation aimed at safeguarding the Idlib de-escalation zone from both Daesh and Syrian regime forces.

With a view to better coordinating their activities, 12 armed opposition factions have responded to stepped-up collaboration between the regime and Daesh by recently setting up a “joint operations” room in Idlib.

Syria’s Idlib province falls within a network of de-escalation zones -- endorsed by Turkey, Russia and Iran -- in which acts of aggression are expressly prohibited.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
