The Syrian regime allegedly conducted a poisonous gas attack in eastern Ghouta’s Ain Tarma neighborhood, a local opposition group member told Anadolu Agency on Thursday.

Local Coordination Committees of Syria member Ammar Ahmad said the regime's gas attack was carried out in Ain Tarma, which have remained under regime siege for the last four years.

Ten opposition fighters were hospitalized as a result of the attack, he said.

Medical sources confirmed regime forces conducted a gas attack with an unidentifiable substance. At least five of the victims experienced vomiting and dizziness, said sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Syria has been locked in a devastating civil war since March 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.

According to UN officials, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in the conflict, while millions more have been displaced.
