German foreign minister in Ramallah

RAMALLAH (AA) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday met with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle in Ramallah.

Palestinian news agency Wafa stated that Westerwelle who is currently on a visit to the Middle East for peace talks came together with Abbas in Ramallah. The meeting between German minister and Palestinian president covered the recent developments in regards to the peace process.

Abbas informed Westerwelle over the peace process and stressed that the Palestinian side's commitment to achieve a comprehensive and fair peace deal through negotiations to reach an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, the news agency said. 

Abbas also condemned the Israeli decision of go ahead with settlement construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

Moreover, Westerwelle highlighted Germany’s support for the peace process and its readiness as well as the EU's readiness to provide the Palestinian people with the support they need to build the institutions of a Palestinian state, according to Wafa.
