SARAJEVO (AA) - A conference that will gather 120 academics from 24 countries will be held in Sarajevo from June 19 to 21, 2014, in Sarajevo under the title "The Place of the World War I in the European History".

The conference will represent the central scientific gathering to mark 100th anniversary since the beginning of the WWI.

Director of the Historical Institute in Sarajevo Professor Husnija Kamberovic announced that the conference will gather academics from all around the world in Sarajevo.

"We want to talk about ideological and diplomatic grounds of war, about relationships between great powers, and places and roles of the small nations at the beginning of the world war. At the same time, we will talk about the relationships between people, lives of soldiers and civilians during the war, their experiences, as well as about the role of women in the war, and consequences of the war. With this conference we can show that Sarajevo is capable to organize a good academic conference, and that we can keep academic learning and politics separated," said Husnija Kamberovic, director of the Sarajevo's Historical Institute.

He added that the conference would send the message that the World War I ended a long time ago, "something a lot of people do not understand even today."

The conference is organized jointly by Institute for history of the University of Sarajevo, Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (Regensburg, Germany), Research Center for the Humanities of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Budapest, Hungary), Institute for Balkan Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Sofia, Bulgaria), Institute for National History (Skopje, Macedonia), Institute for Recent History (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Croatian Institute for History (Zagreb) and Center for the Southeast European Studies of the University of Graz, Austria.
