The conflict in Syria was among issues discussed between Gen. Hulusi Akar, the chief of the Turkish General Staff, and his Russian counterpart, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said the resolution of the conflict and, in particular, the situation in Aleppo province were on the agenda of the meeting in Moscow.

Increased security coordination in the region between Turkey and Russia to clear the region of Daesh was also discussed.

Relations between Ankara and Moscow have warmed since Turkey downed a Russian warplane on the Syrian border in November last year and despite the two countries supporting opposing sides in the Syrian war.

Akar previously met Gerasimov in Turkey in August. He is due to arrive in Romania with Adm. Bulent Bostanoglu, chief of the Turkish navy, later Wednesday to meet military head Gen. Nicolae Ciuca.
