Turkey: Opposition lawmakers attend terrorist funeral

Ankara

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey

Two lawmakers from the opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) attended the funeral of a PKK terrorist in southeastern Diyarbakir province on Friday.

Diyarbakir MPs Sibel Yigitalp and Feleknas Uca were at the burial of Baran Kaval, according to the Anadolu Agency correspondent at the scene.

Democratic Regions Party (DBP) member Firat Anli was also present, the correspondent said, adding intensive security measures were taken at the ceremony.

Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor's office launched an investigation into Yigitalp, Uca and Anli for spreading terrorist propaganda and violating the law on meetings and demonstrations.

Members of the HDP have previously been criticized for attending PKK funerals and making supportive comments about the terrorist group.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU, and resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, PKK terrorist attacks martyred more than 600 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while more than 7,000 PKK terrorists were killed in army operations.
