KIRKLARELI, Turkey

A "bicycle taxi", known as a three-wheeler or tuk-tuk in some countries, has attracted attention in Turkey's northwestern Kirklareli province.

The mayor of Luleburgaz district, Emin Halebak, told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday that the "bicycle taxi" was realized under the "We fight against climate change with our bicycles" project with the European Union.

"We put the bicycle taxi project into effect in the city against global warming, global climate change and to reduce our carbon footprint," Halebak said.

He added that the project is worth €50,000 ($62,000) and will last for a year.

Halebak said it is free of charge now for people in Luleburgaz.

"We ensure elderly people, pregnant women, disabled people and children under 10 can go wherever they want in Luleburgaz."
