Two PKK terrorists 'neutralized' in eastern Turkey

VAN, Turkey

Two terrorists have been "neutralized" in a police operation in Turkey's eastern province of Van early Wednesday, according to police sources.

Anti-terrorism and special forces units of Van Provincial Police Department raided a house in Edremit district where two PKK members were reportedly preparing for a terrorist attack, said the police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media.

Two PKK terrorists opened fire on the security forces when the police called on them to surrender, the source added.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply the terrorist in question was either killed, captured or surrendered.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its armed campaign in July 2015 and since then has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,100 security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
