A terrorist was killed Monday during a PKK attack on a security post in southeast Turkey, the military said Tuesday.

The clash in Yuksekova district in Hakkari province happened on Monday, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement.

The statement added that two PKK/PYD terrorists crossed the border from Syria on Monday to surrender to Turkish forces in Nusaybin, Mardin province, and that an improvised explosive device was destroyed by security forces in Dicle in neighboring Diyarbakir province.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of around 1,200 people.
