SIRNAK, Turkey

Six soldiers were martyred and two others injured in an attack by PKK terrorists in Turkey's southeastern Sirnak province Monday, according to a security source.

PKK terrorists attacked soldiers who were providing security for ongoing construction work on a road linking the Sirnak and Van provinces, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

One PKK terrorist was killed during an ongoing operation to apprehend the terrorists.

Meanwhile, the Turkish army killed three PKK terrorists in an operation in the southeastern Hakkari province on Monday, military sources said.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU and resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, PKK terrorist attacks martyred more than 600 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed in army operations.
