Owner dies as yacht sinks off southwest Turkey coast

MUGLA, Turkey

A man has died and a boy and a woman -- thought to be related -- are missing after a motorized yacht sank off the southwest coast of Turkey on Wednesday, a local official said.

The body of the owner of the 20-meter (66-foot) boat, named as Ali Dogan Cayirlioglu, has been recovered, Esengul Civelek, the governor of Mugla province, said.

The missing boy was named as Mert Ali Agdemir, 15. Also missing is 40-year-old Safia Agdemir.

The Anemone sank 200 meters (220 yards) off the shore from Bozburun, a seaside town 30 kilometers (19 miles) southwest of the popular resort of Marmaris.

Eight of the 11 people on board were rescued, Civelek said. “The owner of the yacht’s corpse was found and search and rescue operations are ongoing,” he added.
