SIIRT, Turkey

Three soldiers were martyred in a PKK roadside bomb attack in the southeastern province of Siirt late Wednesday, the city governorate said.

The governorate issued a statement that said PKK terrorists detonated the bomb on the Siirt-Eruh road just as an armored military vehicle passed.

Two soldiers were martyred at the scene and the other died at Siirt State Hospital, the statement said.

An operation to arrest the PKK terrorists is underway in the region, according to the governorate.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been martyred and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
