A Turkish columnist and former parliamentarian was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with the failed July 15 coup.

Nazli Ilicak was detained in Turkey’s southwestern province of Mugla, security sources said.

Speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, the sources said 72-year-old Ilicak was detained by police officers during a vehicle check in the Bodrum district.

Ilicak will be sent to Istanbul for legal processes, the sources added.

She was elected a member of parliament for the Virtue Party in 1999 but lost her seat after the party was banned by Turkey’s Constitutional Court in 2001.
