Turkish parliament members from the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party met UK lawmakers Monday in a series of briefings regarding the recent abortive coup in Turkey.

AK Party’s Deputy Chairman Mehdi Eker told Anadolu Agency that the briefings are intended to clear misrepresentations of Turkey before and after the July 15 overthrow attempt by the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO).

“Since 2011, we have seen an increasing animosity against Turkey in international media coverage. After the coup attempt we understand that it was not a coincidental issue but a planned action to prepare the international audience to the idea of the coup in Turkey," he said. “Unfortunately this negative coverage of the biased media has been the only source for the most of the scholars and politicians,” Eker added.

Turkish lawmakers will continue meetings in London until Thursday.

The UK visits will include an appearance Tuesday by Eker on BBC Newsnight.
