Turkish police arrested eight people suspected of being members of the PKK terrorist organization in connection to Thursday’s explosion near a military post in the Sancaktepe district of Istanbul.

Police officials Friday told Anadolu Agency on the condition of anonymity that Istanbul’s anti-terror police directorate and intelligence services carried out simultaneous operations in 70 locations in Istanbul on Thursday night.

Officials added that one of the eight arrested suspects was identified as the person allegedly responsible for parking the bomb-laden vehicle and detonating the bomb with a remote control when a shuttle bus carrying military personnel was passing by.

The blast injured five soldiers and three civilians.

Police are interrogating the alleged suspects, whose numbers could increase, officials said.
