A village guard, who had been wounded in an operation against the terrorist group PKK in southeastern Turkey, was martyred on Sunday, hospital sources said.

Refik Kamel was wounded during a Turkish army operation between Sept. 19 and 22 in the Eruh district of Siirt province. Two village guards and one soldier had also been martyred during the clashes.

Meanwhile, two PKK terrorists were “neutralized” in the Dogubayazit district of Turkey’s eastern province of Agri, the local governorship said on Sunday.

The Agri governorship added that a large-scale operation had been launched in the region.

Moreover, the military said on Sunday that positions belonging to the PKK had been destroyed by Turkish fighter jets in eastern Turkey.

The Turkish General Staff said that two caves and a weapon pit were destroyed at 2.36 p.m. (1136GMT) in the Kagizman district of Kars province.

According to Kars governor's statement, the operation in Kagizman left seven terrorists dead and another injured. The security forces seized six rifles, a machine gun, as well as ammo in the caves, the statement added.

Another operation, which was conducted at 3.06 p.m. (1206GMT) in Beytussebap district of Sirnak province, destroyed a blockhouse, the military added.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU and resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, PKK terrorist attacks have martyred more than 600 security personnel and also claimed the lives of numerous civilians, including women and children, while more than 7,000PKK terrorists have been killed in army operations.
