The death toll from a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in southwest China rose to 10, as rescuers continued searching for 12 people who remained missing Friday evening.

State news agency Xinhua reported that rescue teams recovered 17 people -- 10 of them fatalities -- from the rubble in Pianpo village in Guizhou province.

Heavy rains have been sweeping across southern China for over a week, resulting in floods in Guizhou and neighboring provinces.

On Wednesday, at least five people were killed and two others left missing after a coal mine flooded in Guizhou during a safety inspection.
