NAIROBI 

Three people were injured, two of whom critically, on Wednesday after being shot amid chaos after a campaign rally by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the town of Marsabit n Northern Kenya.

Police said they were forced to fire warning shots and tear gas in the air to disperse hundreds of supporters of the ruling Jubilee party and the Frontier Alliance Party, which supports the former, who clashed over positions in local government.

“Three people were shot and injured, two whom were in critical condition have been flown to the Kenyan capital Nairobi for treatment, while the other is among 20 who are being treated at the Marsabit hospital,” a senior police officer who spoke to Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to restrictions to speaking to the media said.

The two sides had clashed again early on Wednesday before the president’s visit.

Kenya is to hold a preidential election and a general election on Aug. 8.
