A 16-year-old Palestinian was killed Monday after an alleged attempted knife attack at an army checkpoint in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Israeli border police shot the teen after he attacked them with a knife at a checkpoint near the West Bank town of Abu Dis, according to police spokeswoman Luba Samri.

The Palestinian Health Ministry, for its part, has yet to provide the identity of the slain Palestinian.

In a related development, at least 13 Palestinians were injured on Monday in separate clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank towns of Ramallah and Hebron, Palestinian news agency Maan reported.

Monday also witnessed a general strike in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, the blockaded Gaza Strip, and Arab towns inside Israel.

The strike is intended to show support for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel who have been waging a hunger strike for the last 36 days.
