Syrian regime forces and allied militias -- backed by Russian air support -- captured Al-Tamoura village and adjacent areas on Saturday from opposition groups in Syria’s Aleppo province, according to opposition sources.

"Seven warplanes carried out dozens of sorties targeting opposition positions in and around the village, forcing opposition groups to withdraw southward," Sami al-Raj, a spokesman for the Ahrar Syria Brigade opposition faction, told Anadolu Agency.

Al-Raj went on to note that People's Protection Units (YPG) -- the armed wing of the Kurdish PYD, which is the terrorist PKK group’s Syrian affiliate -- had cut the village’s supply lines from the west while regime forces had done the same from the north, making it difficult for opposition groups to hold the position.

Al-Tamoura is of considerable strategic significance. Its capture will allow regime forces to target opposition positions in Aleppo’s northern countryside, especially in the city of Anadan and the towns of Hayyan and Bayanoun.
