Singapore Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat was discharged Saturday from a hospital where he has been receiving treatment since suffering a stroke during a cabinet meeting in May.

A statement from the Prime Minister's Office said Heng, 54, had made an “excellent recovery” after an aneurysm caused his sudden stoke May 12, the Straits Times newspaper reported.

"To minimise the risk of infection, his doctors have advised against receiving visitors for the time being," it said.

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam is continuing to cover for Heng as he remains on medical leave during his ongoing rehabilitation.

In his first Facebook post since May 10, Feng thanked the medical staff at Tan Tock Seng Hospital for showing “the best of care, and a warm human touch”.

"If not for the critical help of many people, including my colleagues in Cabinet on the day of my stroke, I wouldn’t be here now," he added.
