A Turkish aid agency provided humanitarian assistance to needy civilians living in the recently liberated village of Dayr Sawwan in Syria’s northwestern Afrin region.

On Tuesday, the Turkish military and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) liberated Afrin’s northeastern village of Dayr Sawwan from YPG/PKK-Daesh terrorists, cutting links of terrorists to Turkey’s border province of Kilis, as part of Turkish-led Operation Olive Branch in the region.

Following the move, the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) distributed aid supplies -- including food, diapers, infant formula and hygiene kits -- among 25 families in the village.

“We’ve learned that there were many civilians in this liberated village. They said they have been suffering from food shortages for a couple of days.

"We’ve provided food and immediate aid to the civilians in Dayr Sawwan village,” said Yakup Alaca, the media official at the agency's southern Kilis office.

Since the launch of the operation on Jan. 20, Turkish military and the FSA liberated 103 locations including one center of a district, 75 villages, 20 strategic mountains and hills and one YPG/PKK-Daesh base.

Turkey launched Operation Olive Branch to remove YPG/PKK-Daesh terrorists from Afrin.

According to Turkish General Staff, the operation aims to establish security and stability along Turkish borders and the region as well as to protect the Syrian people from the oppression and cruelty of terrorists.

The operation is being carried out under the framework of Turkey’s rights based on international law, UN Security Council’s decisions, self-defense rights under the UN charter and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, it said.
