A typhoon that swept through eastern China earlier this week has left at least 10 people dead while 29 others remain missing.

State news agency Xinhua cited the ministry of civil affairs Friday as saying that the fatalities were recorded in the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian.

Typhoon Megi impacted 16 cities in Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi, affecting around 2.09 million people.

Of them, around 656,000 were evacuated.

Direct economic losses of 5.53 billion yuan ($829 million) were recorded due to the storm, which triggered flooding and landslides, and destroyed homes and crops.

Before making landfall in Fujian on Wednesday, the typhoon left at least four people dead and more than 600 others injured.
