A U.S. response to Russia’s recent hacking of Democratic Party servers would be “proportional”, the White House said Tuesday.

“There are a range of responses that are available to the president and he will consider a response that is proportional," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told reporters aboard Air Force One.

The Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Homeland Security officially announced Friday that Russia was behind data breaches at the Democratic National Committee and Democratic National Campaign Committee but there was no mention of a response in the announcement Friday.

The two agencies said officials were “confident” Russian Intelligence agencies and even senior Russian officials were complicit in recently leaked emails and documents.

The attacks this summer disclosed the internal affairs of the Democratic National Committee.

Some of the leaked emails detailed Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz and other top officials’ preferences for Hillary Clinton to Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as the part’s nominee for president. The revelations forced Wasserman-Schultz to step down from her high-profile post. She was then offered position with the Clinton campaign.
