Cannes film festival reveals female-dominated jury

PARIS

The Cannes film festival unveiled on Wednesday a majority-female jury for its 71st edition.

Jury president Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett heads a lineup that includes A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay, actors Kristen Stewart and Lea Seydoux, and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actor Chang Chen, French filmmaker Robert Guediguian, Burundian songwriter-composer Khadja Nin, and Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev.

"Facing a renewed Competition which presents filmmakers who will compete for the first time, the Jury of the next edition … invites five women, four men, seven nationalities and five continents under the presidency of Cate Blanchett," the organizers said in a statement.

The 2018 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 8-19.
