Türkiye's natural gas imports decreased by 4.1% in January, compared to the same month in 2024, according to data from Türkiye's energy watchdog on Thursday.
Natural gas imports in January totaled 6.41 billion cubic meters (bcm), down from approximately 6.69 bcm last year, Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) said in its monthly natural gas market report.
In January, 3.76 bcm of imports were made through pipelines and 2.65 bcm were imported via liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Russia was the largest natural gas supplier to Türkiye, providing 2.78 bcm, while Azerbaijan and Iran followed with 795.39 million cubic meters (mcm) and 185.97 mcm, respectively.
During this period, 1.57 bcm of LNG were imported from the US, 514.41 mcm from Algeria, 297.94 mcm from Equatorial Guinea, 185.92 mcm from Nigeria, and 81.08 mcm from Brazil.
- Gas consumption up 22.2%
The country's total gas consumption increased to 7.62 bcm in January, up by 22.2% compared to the same period in January 2024.
Household consumption rose by 14.4% to 3.71 bcm, while gas consumption in power plants increased by 118.9% to 1.39 bcm, during the same period.
The natural gas storage volume in January declined by 22.4% to around 4.05 bcm, compared to 5.22 bcm last year.
