Iran implements nuclear commitments: Energy watchdog

- IAEA's Director General Yukiya Amano met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani during his visit to Tehran

Nuclear-related commitments undertaken by Iran are being implemented, said The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Sunday in Tehran.

'The nuclear-related commitments undertaken by Iran are being implemented, and that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) represents a clear gain from a verification point of view,' IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano confirmed, according to a written statement by the agency.

For the future, he stressed the importance of full implementation by Iran of its nuclear-related commitments in order to make the JCPOA sustainable.

The statement came after Amano's meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Vice-President and President of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi, and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the country's capital, Tehran on 29 October.

Since January 2016, the agency has been verifying and monitoring Iran's implementation of its nuclear-related commitments under the JCPOA, as requested by the United Nations Security Council and authorized by the IAEA's Board of Governors.

'The IAEA's verification and monitoring activities are conducted in an impartial and objective manner and in accordance with the modalities defined by the JCPOA and standard safeguards practice,' according to the statement.
