Kazakhstan to export uranium to China by 2020

- Kazakhstan exports 40 percent of the world's total raw uranium, says Kazakh energy minister

Kazakhstan will sell uranium to China in 2019-2020 once its planned uranium production factory is complete, the country's energy minister said Wednesday.

Kazakhstan has enriched uranium with Russia and is now cooperating with China. Once the uranium factory is completed, the country will supply uranium to China's five nuclear power plants.

'Kazakhstan is the leading uranium mining country in the world,' said Kanat Bozumbayev at a nuclear event in Astana.

The country supplies 40 percent of the world's total raw uranium needs, he added.

Kazakhstan hosts more than 15 percent of global uraniumreserves but has no nuclear power plants of its own.
