Eni, IONITY to install high-power chargers for EVs

- Companies to install 180 'state-of-the-art' chargers across 30 sites in Italy

Eni signed a framework agreement with Munich-based IONITY to install high-power chargers for electric cars at its service stations across Italy, the Italian energy group announced Thursday.

As part of the agreement, 180 'state-of-the-art' chargers will be installed at 30 sites, according to a statement from Eni.

'Each station will feature six 350-kilowatt chargers, which are more than 100 times the power of standard household utilities, able to top up current, as well as the next generation of electric vehicles in less than 20 minutes,' the statement read.

Eni said this initiative is part of its plan to develop sustainable mobility. Out of an overall network of 4,400 service stations, 3,500 supply Eni Diesel +, the premium diesel with 15 percent renewable content produced in the Venice bio-refinery, while about 1,000 also supply liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and methane.

According to the statement, IONITY, a joint venture between Daimler, Ford, BMW and the Volkswagen Group with Audi and Porsche, is currently on target to install 400 stations across Europe by 2020, with up to 2,400 chargers, as part of its goal to build a high-power charging network for electric vehicles along major highways in Europe.
