GE Renewable Energy to lower carbon footprint in Europe via deal with Forestalia

- New 21-megawatt wind farm will be built in Spain via 12-year fixed price European Power Purchase Agreement

GE Renewable Energy signed its first 12-year fixed price European Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) from a new wind farm in Spain with its partner, Forestalia, the company announced on Wednesday.

In a bid to reduce its carbon footprint in Europe, GE Renewable Energy will source clean energy, corresponding to over 60% of its facilities’ electricity consumption in Europe from Forestalia.

A new 21-megawatt wind farm will also be built in Spain with operations start anticipated in June next year.

The wind farm will help reduce GE's emissions by around 13,000 tonnes of carbon annually, corresponding to approximately 79% of its current carbon footprint from electricity in Europe.

GE plans to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2030.

'We are excited to partner with our customer Forestalia and support the development of a new wind farm in Europe, generating renewable energy to power our own operations while also contributing to the creation of jobs and growth in the El Coto region,' Danielle Merfeld, chief technology officer at GE Renewable Energy said.
